“It is more important than ever to make our families the center of our lives and the top of our priorities.” —L. Tom Perry
In our busy lives, this might sound like one more advice, but one day we will realize its true importance.
We must take action before it is too late and we feel that we have lost precious time that we could have used productively to bond with our family.
Spending time with your family doesn’t need to be a task or an activity that requires extensive planning. Here are some simple things you can try out along with your kids.
Game time: Game time is probably the most rewarding one when it comes to having fun and learning as well. Choose family games like Monopoly, Scrabble, Clue, etc. which help to develop many life skills like decision-making, problem-solving, and of course, simply fun to play along with the family.
Movie nights: Watching a great movie with your family can be a good way to bond and have amazing conversations. Choose a good family flick that your kids will enjoy. Avoid the ones with violence, profane language, and sensitive topics.
Outings: Spending time outdoors is a great way to rejuvenate both mind and body. It doesn’t have to be a planned activity – you can choose to do an impromptu picnic on a weekend or visit the nearby playground altogether or as simple as taking a walk together. Kids need to see how much you love spending time with them which assures them of a healthy family life.
Plan a dinner: Dinner time can be a great opportunity to have meaningful conversations. Make sure all of you sit at the same time while having dinner. Ask your child about their day, share stories, and tell them about yours if something exciting has happened. Occasionally, you can plan the dinner together- assign some task to every member like making a salad, or preparing the table- together it surely becomes a fun-filled family activity.
Art & Crafts: Art can be a healing activity for anyone. And, when you can enjoy this as a family, it becomes a great way to release stress, foster creativity, and improve expression. Choose any activity that you can do as a family and engage yourself in some enjoyable time making cherished memories.
73% of Americans feel that spending time with family is one of the most important things. Studies have shown that people who have strong family relationships tend to have better mental and emotional health.
According to research conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics, there is a positive correlation between family engagement and children’s academic success.
Families that spend time regularly and share everyday activities form strong emotional
ties. According to research, the families that enjoy group activities together share stronger bonding.
How much time do you spend with your family? What do you like to do the most?
